It is a semisynthetic compound derived from Amycolatopsis rifamycinica (formerly known as Amycolatopsis mediterranei and Streptomyces mediterranei). Rifampicin may be abbreviated R, RMP, RA, RF, or RIF (US).Rifampicin is typically used to treat Mycobacterium infections, including tuberculosis and Hansen's Disease.
